Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs began as a sacred site for the Ute people, who revered its red rock formations long before surveyors named it in 1859. Donated to the city in 1909 by Charles Elliott Perkins’ family, this 1,341.3-acre park is now a National Natural Landmark.
